Port is a principal at Backyard Homes LLC - Backyard Homes is a northern California based construction company that specializes in the design, permitting and construction of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), and multi-generational housing.
Backyard Homes was formed to take advantage of recently enacted California laws that make it easier to permit and construct ADUs. Port has seventeen years experience in developing, constructing, managing, and partnering in a wide range of product types (commercial and residential), with project valuations ranging from $10M to $300M.
Port’s success in creating long-term relationships and repeat business is exemplified by the many development and construction projects he has completed over the past 17 years. He places a high priority on people’s time and following through on commitments. Port’s broad range of experience and significant exposure to large and small projects uniquely qualifies him to solve complex problems.
Port’s achievements include the completion of $300M(+) in ground-up and adaptive reuse projects. He has significant development, construction management, and project management experience, overseeing challenging projects that range from high-density, urban residential subdivisions (single-family homes), to sterile laboratory facilities for world-leading genetic research companies (The Jackson Laboratories).
His current role as managing member of The Good Home Company (Builders) and Backyard Homes includes the overall design, development, and construction of single-family homes in Butte County and the construction of accessory dwelling units (ADUs) throughout northern California. The Good Home Company is dedicated to the reconstruction of homes destroyed by the Camp Fire. Backyard Homes operates under recently passed state laws that make permitting and construction of ADUs more efficient and less expensive. Port is also involved in the development and construction of a waterfront apartment complex along the Sacramento River.
Prior to joining The Good Home Company, Port was an Executive Vice President for The Cordish Companies, the largest privately held development company in the U.S., and the only company in the world to win 7 Urban Land Institute Awards of Excellence. Of note, Port oversaw the final build-out and leasing of The Walk in Atlantic City, N.J. This award-winning project included the redevelopment of 8 city blocks and 700,000 SF of premier retail outlets, including Bass Pro Shops.
Port’s charitable contributions include founding Computers 4 Kids, a nonprofit that provides free computers and software to underprivileged children in the Sacramento region.
